周南（Robert D.Drennan） 生于1947年，美国国家科学院院士\匹兹堡大学人类学系杰出教授，曾获得世界考古学论坛重大考古研究成果奖、美洲考古学会会长奖和拉美与加勒比地区考古杰出奖。 周南教授本科毕业于普林斯顿大学艺术与考古系，硕博毕业于密歇根大学考古系。在读博期间，周南教授师从肯特.弗兰纳瑞教授学习新考古学。周南教授的研究方向为社会复杂化、量化方法在考古学中的应用、比较考古学和家户考古等。 周南曾在北美洲、中美洲和南美洲地区进行考古工作，是哥伦比亚新考古学的开创者，曾获得哥伦比亚安第斯大学荣誉博士。 从1996年至今，周南教授和吉林大学、中国人民大学、内蒙古自治区考古所和辽宁省考古所等单位合作，在内蒙古和辽宁等地开展早期社会复杂化研究。
